Kanye West performed a concert in Shanghai, China, over the weekend. However, some fans were less than impressed with the rapper’s set, with some calling for refunds.
According to a report by Page Six, the “Heartless” rapper performed at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday night. West posted about the gig on X, thanking his Chinese fans and the government. “The energy was amazing. Love all of you forever. Can’t wait till the next show,” he wrote.
Some fan recollections paint a different picture of the concert. One in particular took to X in a multi-tweet rant to express his displeasure at the set. @Fabian_Lemuel claims he has been a fan of Kanye West since he was a teen and says he was so hyped for the concert he could barely sleep the night before. “But. Worst concert I’ve ever been to,” he delares. Lemuel then addressed West directly, saying, “u can be better.”
The concertgoer reveals a long list of issues he had with the set, starting when the “Gold Digger” rapper was allegedly 45 minutes late. He also notes that West wasn’t live for most of it. “Mostly lip synching. His microphone must have been up less than 20% of the time,” he claims.
The Fan Claims Kanye West Didn’t Even Finish Some Of His Songs
Lemuel describes that West randomly walked off stage multiple times. He alleges the rapper kept stopping mid-song before saying, “ok, next one.” The fan notes that he did this specifically during “Stronger” and “Power.” The icing on the cake for the disappointed concertgoer was the encore. He claims the rapper “disappeared for over 20 minutes at one point.” Some songs allegedly played without West on stage. “I could have just played your music at home, man. Came to see u perform????,” Lemuel despairs.
The displeasure doesn’t seem to be restricted to just a few people either. A video on X by @DetroidShowtyme allegedly shows fans chanting before West arrived on set. The caption reads, “Shanghai consumers DO NOT PLAY. Massive crowd was shouting REFUND after Ye was late 40 minutes to his concert.”
Per Page Six, the rapper has upcoming concerts in Slovakia and Korea later in July.
