Last week, strange crop circles appeared in a farmer’s field in Dorset, UK. Despite the Hollywood stigma that E.T. and his pals make these patterns, authorities are looking for a terrestrial culprit, highlighting the financial implications of the stunt.
According to a news release by the Dorset Police Rural Crime Team, a farmer discovered the circles on July 10. The pattern was constructed in a field in the Cerne Abbas area, North Dorset. Authorities are appealing for witnesses, explaining that the crops are ruined. Police Constable Kate Schofield, of the Rural Crime Team, reportedly said, “This act of criminal damage has had a significant financial impact on the farmer. I would ask anyone who may have information about the damage caused to please come forward and contact Dorset Police.”
In response to the appeal, one Facebook user explains that the way these crop circles are made is particularly damaging. Some crop circles are allegedly made by bending the crops, which is often salvageable. The Cerne Abbas circle appears to be “cut and scoured down to the chalk,” which can take years to fix.
Per a report by the BBC, Farmer Will Pope branded the artwork as blatant vandalism. He had a crop circle appear on his land last year, although he admitted the patterns were “clever and good artwork.”
Crop Circles Can Cost Farmers Thousands
Pope revealed the potential cost implications of a crop circle to farmers. He allegedly told the outlet, “But it’s also my livelihood and blatant vandalism. It definitely had an impact on me, and I reckon the damage came to several thousand pounds.” He also explained that the ground is damaged, complicating any planting plans for that area. Pope reportedly told the BBC, “I wouldn’t mind if the people who do this kind of thing approach farmers first and we could have a dialogue. Maybe come to an agreement and charge entry.”
If you’re looking for Aliens and UFOs, the sky above New York City is allegedly a good place to start. According to the National UFO Reporting Center, witnesses have reported a whopping 66 sightings above the City during the first half of 2025. The UK is another UFO sighting hot spot, although typically around London instead of Devon.
