An Irish woman has died after her car rolled backwards and hit her. She passed away after an extended stay in the hospital.
According to a report by the Irish Times, 60-year-old Denise Morey parked her vehicle on a steep hill on June 23. However, her car “unexpectedly moved” and collided with her. The accident occurred on Pophams Road in Farranaree. Emergency services rushed Morey to the Cork University Hospital, where doctors treated her in the ICU.
Per the Irish Independent, the grandmother died eleven days later on July 4. A note on Rip.ie reads, “MOREY (Cork) On 4th July 2025, peacefully, after a tragic accident, in the presence of her loving family and in the tender and exceptional care of the I.C.U. Ward at Cork University Hospital, DENISE, late of Killmore Road, Knocknaheeny.”
Authorities Have Declared The Irish Woman’s Death As Accidental
The report by the Irish Independent explains that the incident is being treated as a tragic accident. Morey is survived by her husband, Bill, and daughter, Samantha. She also had four grandchildren. Many have sent condolences on Rip.ie. One reads, “Our heartfelt condolences to Billy, Samantha and family on Denise’s passing. Thinking of you all at this devastating time. Denise was an absolute lady and will be sadly missed. Together again with her son, our friend, Bernard. May you both rest in peace.” Another says, “My deepest sympathies to Billy, Samantha and both family sides on your great loss. Denise was salt of the earth and such a lovely, lovely person. May she rest in peace.”
According to the Irish Mirror, a garda spokesperson said, “Investigations into the road traffic collision remain ongoing.”
Another accidental death shook the community of Rawtenstall, Rossendale, over the weekend. A gravestone in a cemetery reportedly fell and struck a 4-year-old child. Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene but were unable to save him. Police aren’t treating the death as suspicious, and family members have called it a “freak accident.” Mourners were leaving tributes at the toppled headstone at Rawtenstall Cemetery.
A spokesperson for the council reportedly said they are working with authorities to understand what happened.
