A woman from Oakland County, Michigan, hit the lottery jackpot on a scratchcard. She claims her family doesn’t know about her win, and reveals what she intends to do with the money.

According to a news release by Michigan Lottery Connect, the 77-year-old woman was “frozen in the Kroger parking lot” after discovering she hit the jackpot. She reportedly won $4 million on an Electric 300s scratchcard. The woman explained, “I play scratch-off tickets all the time, and the $30 tickets are my favorite. I scratched the ticket in my car in the store parking lot when I was done shopping. When I saw I won $4 million, I was frozen in my seat for a while.”

The woman told the lottery that she gave the ticket to her husband when she got home. He couldn’t believe it, even after carefully checking the ticket over. She also said, “We haven’t told anyone about our big win, but plan to surprise our family with the news soon!”

The Lottery Winner Plans To Share Her Winnings With Her Family

Per a statement by Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli, the Michigan woman plans to “help others by donating and sharing with her family.” The outlet also confirms that the ticket was purchased from a Kroger store at 670 Highland Avenue in Milford. Many lottery tickets give winners the choice between claiming the full prize, but in annual payments, or a reduced lump sum. In this case, the woman chose 30 yearly payments of $133,000. The lottery clarifies that she would get $2.7 million if she collected it all at once. There are reportedly two more Electric 300s tickets in the wild with the $4 million prize available.

Many lottery tickets offer a life-changing amount of money to the winner, but did you ever wonder what happens if nobody claims their prize? Last month, CaLottery posted a news release explaining that somebody had won over $1 million on a Powerball lottery ticket. The issue is that they won it back in December 2024, and tickets have an expiry date of 180 days. The outlet declared that if the jackpot wasn’t claimed, the winnings would go to local schools.
