Depending on who you ask, cake and sweet drinks are par for the course at a children’s party. However, one host found out that’s not always the case when angry parents accused them of “loading their kids up on sugar.”
The party organizer shared their story on Reddit to find out if there were any unwritten rules about kids’ birthdays or if the parents were overreacting. They explained that they hosted a birthday party for their 6-year-old son over the weekend. It was a standard affair in a park with party games. The poster also describes the food that was on offer. There were allegedly snacks, cakes, cookies, and lollies. As for drinks, there was water, juice, and Coke.
The party host says that most parents just dropped their kids off and left, sometimes without saying a word. They allegedly asked the children if there was anything they weren’t allowed. They all said no. The poster also points out that their child dislikes fizzy drinks and prefers water and milk.
After the party, the poster claims they received several messages from parents who weren’t pleased about the hospitality. In particular, one parent accused them of “loading their kids up on sugar.” Another blasted them for being irresponsible, explaining their child was now “bouncing off the walls.”
The Party Host Asks Wonders If They Should Have Micromanaged At The Event
The poster clarifies that they would abide by any dietary restrictions had they known. They ask, If you don’t stay at the party or say anything about dietary restrictions, can you really be upset afterward? The story concludes by asking if they were in the wrong for not micromanaging at the party.
The post has garnered over 3000 responses at the time of writing, with most saying the parents had no right to complain, especially if they just left without saying anything. One reply, with over 6000 likes, reads, “If parents leave without instructions. They are assuming their child has personal responsibility for their own rules. Not your fault if they child didn’t do this, or as I’m assuming, was too young to be left with this responsibility from their parents.”
Many replies share similar sentiments, although some do point out they believe caffeinated Coke would be unacceptable. One awarded reply with over 22,000 likes jokes, “It’s your responsibility to load the kids up with sugar and send them home feral.”
