Authorities have arrested a man from Colorado after he allegedly tried and failed to kidnap a child multiple times.
According to a press release by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), the bizarre incident occurred on June 21 at roughly 11:30 am. Officers responded to a call about an attempted kidnapping at a Safeway store on Kipling Parkway.
An 8-year-old girl was reportedly out shopping with her grandmother when a man approached them. The suspect, who authorities have identified as 34-year-old Bradley Mikel Wilson, allegedly placed his hands on the child’s shoulders. He then ‘Said something to the effect of “May I borrow your child?”‘
Wilson allegedly attempted to escort the girl out of the Safeway store, but the grandmother yelled at him, and she was able to break free. The Sheriff’s Office explains that Wilson returned moments later and tried to take the child once again. Staff at the establishment reportedly shouted at him when he reentered, and he promptly left in his vehicle.
The Colorado Man Faces Kidnapping Charges
The press release reveals that Wilson had left the scene by the time officers showed up. Regardless, they tracked him down on the highway and arrested him without incident. Authorities are holding him at Jefferson County Detention Facility, and he faces charges of 2nd-degree kidnapping. Police say neither the grandmother nor the child were hurt during the incident.
Earlier this month, authorities arrested a man at a Disney park on kidnapping charges. The situation was unusual because the suspect was a police officer. David Cunningham, 22, was reportedly an officer for the Prichard Police Department. He arrived at a house party in Harrison County where a dog was allegedly hit by accidental gunfire.
Cunningham reportedly detained the man who discharged the weapon, handcuffed him, and put him in the back of his patrol car. However, the cop had no authority to do so outside of his jurisdiction. Local officers later stopped Cunningham’s patrol car and released the man in cuffs. Detectives later signed a warrant for his arrest, and Orange County officers detained him at a Disney resort less than two weeks later.
