Rachel Zegler became a household name for all the wrong reasons in the leadup to the release of the Disney Snow White remake this year. She opened up about recent events in an interview, including what her psychiatrist told her.
In the leadup to the film’s release, the actress faced fierce backlash for her remarks about the beloved original, per the New York Post. Adding fuel to the fire, the movie was polarizing. Some critics loved it, others hated it, and it sits bang in the middle at 50 out of 100 on the review aggregate website Metacritic. It’s also worth noting that the user score is an overwhelmingly low 1.2 at the time of writing.
A report by Forbes suggests that the Snow White remake may have lost Disney over $150 million.
Zegler spoke about current events in an interview with i-D Magazine, published this week. The outlet reports that the actress moved from New York back home to New Jersey to spend time with her family and dog. “My ******* psychiatrist has seen me through all of it.” she reportedly said. Zegler elaborated that she needed someone to tell her, “What you’re going through isn’t normal.”
The backlash took its toll on the West Side Story actress, who revealed she had to take medication to deal with her anxiety. She said the medicine “was truly a game changer because I just wasn’t functioning. And I wanted to function in a way that made me feel confident in the way I was moving through the world.”
Zegler Says A Victim Mindset Is A Choice
During the interview, Zegler explained, “I think a victim mindset is a choice, and I don’t choose it.” She added, “I also don’t choose nastiness in the face of it. I don’t choose negativity in the face of it. I choose positivity and light and happiness.” The actress also said she feels “very lucky” to live the life she does.
While Zegler isn’t attributed with any upcoming movie roles, she is still acting. Per the New York Post, she is currently the lead in “Evita,” a theatrical production in London’s West End.
