A young woman underwent surgery just weeks after graduating. She donated a kidney to her father, who has suffered from kidney disease for multiple years.
According to a report by WSVN, 22-year-old Danielle Moberg graduated from the University of Central Florida several weeks prior. After graduating, she requested a test with her doctor and discovered she was a match with her dad. The outlet explains that Danielle’s father, Daniel, has battled kidney disease for four years. He needed a transplant for a shot at a normal life.
He told WSVN, “I was on dialysis. I had a tube in my stomach. It was a matter of, you do dialysis or die when I was in the hospital.” At the time, the situation looked bleak as Daniel required a kidney transplant, but no suitable donors had come forward. Per a news release by Memorial Healthcare System (MHS), Danielle, who had just earned her degree in Psychology, decided to take matters into her own hands.
The Florida Woman Got Tested In Secret
Daniel told WSVN he was unaware of his daughter’s plan. “She didn’t tell me; she just did it. She went on her own; she wasn’t going to be stopped,” he explained. Her father did not want her to go through with the procedure, but she insisted, per MHS. Danielle had her surgery and gave her father what nurses called “a Lamborghini of a kidney.”
The young woman also points out the significance of the date, as this happened shortly before Father’s Day. “This holiday, especially since Father’s Day is coming up. I thought about every holiday, Christmas, just getting more time with him,” she said. “We’ll be more appreciative of the time we have together and just the relationship we have. I think it will be nice to celebrate,” she added.
Daniel spoke to WSVN about his successful surgery and explained, “It’s hard to put words to it, but it’s saved my life. I don’t have dialysis anymore; I’m not bound by it, and it’s going to be normal life.” He reportedly joked to his daughter, “Bikini season is over.” She replied, “It’ll be a badge of honor.”
