It’s normal to want to look your best for your close friend’s wedding. Or at least, so I thought. One woman says her bestie ‘uninvited’ her from a wedding after she lost weight. She also says that her attempts to smooth things over have not been successful.
The bewildered bridesmaid-to-be shared her story on Reddit. She explains that she gained two dress sizes over three years and used her friend’s upcoming wedding as the perfect excuse to change that. The poster explains that she was dress shopping with the bride, Emily. She thought Emily was “acting weird” but brushed it off.
When the poster brought it up later, Emily allegedly accused her of losing weight to upstage her at her own wedding. The bride said she was already the “skinny friend” and never “cleared” her weight loss with her first. Emily then accused her friend of hiding her weight loss by wearing loose-fitting clothes.
The poster clarifies that she does not consider herself skinny but is the smallest in her group. Shocked by her friend’s outburst, the ex-bridesmaid says she won’t be attending any weddings in the near future. Emily allegedly said she could only participate if she put weight back on, and even then, she wouldn’t be a bridesmaid.
The Poster Tried To Make Amends With The Bride
In a recent edit, the poster explains that she tried to patch up their friendship, but it didn’t go well. In fact, the bride brought up other dynamics concerning relationships in their group, which made things even worse.
Despite Emily’s behavior, the poster turned to social media to ask if she was somehow in the wrong for losing weight and if it was proper etiquette to notify the bride. As you may expect, Reddit users are almost unanimously in the poster’s favor. One comment, with 13k likes, reads, “Cleared your weight loss with her”? Is she ******* kidding? That is the stupidest and most controlling thing ever. Some people.”
Another commenter reveals she was in a similar situation as Emily, and her bridesmaids were much smaller than her. However, they explain, ” But honestly, that thought never even crossed my mind at the time. They’re my best friends!”
Many commenters suggest the poster ditch the bridezilla altogether.
