A 5-month-old baby was hurt after a suspect riding an e-scooter allegedly sprayed a fire extinguisher into a car. The ordeal sent the infant to the hospital.
According to a press release by the Australian Queensland Police, the bizarre attack happened on Sunday, June 15. Police are pleading for anyone with information to come forward. Authorities explained that a 29-year-old male was driving a silver Suzuki Vitara with the young infant inside. He was driving down High Street near Sippy Downs Drive at around 7:50 PM.
Two suspects on e-scooters reportedly rode next to the car and sprayed a fire extinguisher inside before fleeing the scene. Police say the driver and child suffered minor injuries from the discharge. The press release does not reveal a motive or description but explains that authorities found the fire extinguisher nearby on Stringybark Road.
The Fire Extinguisher Incident Sent The 5-Month-Old To Hospital
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) sheds more light on what happened and reveals there were three people in the car. Tiffani Teasdale was riding alongside her partner while the child, identified as Pixie, was strapped into the back seat. Their vehicle stopped at a set of traffic lights, which is where the offenders sprayed the car.
Ms Teasdale reportedly told the outlet that Pixie wasn’t even crying after the attack but was covered in white powder and just looked shocked. She also explained that hospital staff rinsed out the infant’s eyes. “We were in hospital until very early morning, and they had to put 100 milliliters of saline solution into her eyes,” she said.
Pixie is now at home, and doctors told Ms Teasdale to monitor her condition. Her eyes are reportedly a little swollen, and her face is still red.
The vehicle interior was also covered in fire extinguisher chemicals, which allegedly destroyed Pixie’s pram and nappy bag.
ABC also explains that another similar attack occurred on the weekend, which may have been carried out by the same people. At around 8:30 on Saturday night, two people riding e-scooters sprayed a fire extinguisher into an Indian Restaurant. The incident prompted the venue to turn diners away, and the kitchen was temporarily closed for cleaning.
