When you’re lying on your death bed surrounded by loved ones, you have one final opportunity to make amends or say goodbye.
Some people let their wills do the talking, but there are many stories about folks shocking those around their death beds with all sorts of strange revelations. Here are a few of the more bizarre ones we’ve found online, courtesy of a viral Reddit thread on r/askreddit.
I’m Secretly An Assassin
One Reddit user shares a bizarre story about their grandfather, who allegedly claimed they were somebody else and hid a fortune.
The poster explains they weren’t there at the time, but their grandfather supposedly sat up in bed before revealing a secret identity. ” I’m not [his name]. I am an assassin, and my name is Jonas McGilfree. I’ve hidden 2 million dollars in gold bullets,” they reportedly said.
After some research, the family discovered the line was apparently from a book, so there was no secret stash of millions to be found. Still, the poster remembers his grandfather fondly and explains he was a real character.
Confessing To Stealing From A Church
One poster alleges that their grandmother feared they wouldn’t go to heaven because she stole money from a Church. The post explains that she stole money 50 years ago as she was desperate for funds to feed her children.
They explain that the grandmother was genuinely fearful about going to hell despite the selfless reasons she took the money. The poster explains that their aunt was more upset over how scared the grandmother looked than the prospect of them passing away.
He’s Not Your Grandfather
A grandmother on her deathbed allegedly confessed that she cheated on her husband for multiple years. She had 14 children, but explained her three youngest kids were likely from another man.
The poster, who claims they are 35, says his grandmother shared this revelation with their aunt. It took them several weeks to get over the news.
A Confession They Wish They Never Made
The hospital allegedly gave a woman a terminal diagnosis, and experts said they had three months to live. During that time, friends and well-wishers visited and said their goodbyes, as did their best friend.
However, when the best friend visited, the woman requested she close the curtains as she had a confession to make. She allegedly told her friend that she had secretly been having an affair with her husband. Even worse, their fling lasted years. The poster explains that the friend left the room without saying a word.
The big twist is that doctors visited the woman’s bed shortly after and admitted a major blunder. Hospital workers allegedly mixed up her paperwork with someone else, and she wasn’t terminally ill after all. The woman was reportedly given the all-clear and was free to go home.
