The best music and movie stars are dedicated to their craft. Many actors and actresses are renowned for going the extra mile to sell their characters, and Sydney Sweeney is no exception.
Sweeney is known for dozens of performances, although she’s arguably best known as Cassie Howard in Euphoria. She’s also the star of the upcoming Christy Martin Biopic. Martin is one of the most high-profile female boxers in the US and held the Super Welterweight Title in 2009. Per Women Boxing, the WBA awarded her with an Honorary Lifetime Champion Award last year, and she quickly established herself as a formidable opponent when she stepped into the ring in the early 90s.
In an interview with W Magazine, Sweeney revealed some dramatic changes while shaping up for the role, including gaining 30 pounds. She also shared some insight into her grueling training regime. “I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,” Sweeney explained. “I started eating, I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.
Sweeney Says “Her Body Was Completely Different”
In addition to the intense workouts, Sweeney also revealed that a couple of parts of her body had grown larger while preparing for the role. “My body was completely different,” she told W, “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god!”
The White Lotus Actress also added, “But it was amazing. I was so strong, like crazy strong.” Director and co-writer David Michôd showered the actress with praise while talking to W. “Sydney trained her butt off to play the part,” he explained. “The beauty of Sydney is that she turned up to work every day with her tail wagging, ready to go. No matter how tough it was, she was like a ray of sunshine.”
He said of the upcoming movie, “Our film is a wild mix of inspiring underdog sports-world story and personal saga.”
