A woman took to social media after an incident regarding her dog, a soiled jacket, and an angry nephew had her questioning if she was in the wrong.
In a lengthy post on Reddit, u/Pretzelmamma explains that she and her husband own three dogs. One, Pickles, has a sensitive stomach and is on a controlled diet. The dog also prefers the quiet and stays upstairs when they have guests.
They had a large family gathering at their house for a buffet, where everyone brought their own food. There were also reportedly many teenagers present, and the poster’s husband reminded guests not to feed Pickles any human food. He allegedly joked, “Don’t feed Pickles any treats or human food. Anyone caught will be the one upstairs shampooing the poop out of his fur.”
The inevitable happened, and the husband found a piece of sausage roll upstairs. U/Pretzelmamma explains that her 19-year-old nephew admitted to trying to befriend Pickles with the food. She also said that guests left their coats in their bedroom, which is something they’ve always done.
Pickles Had An Accident On The Nephews Jacket
The post doesn’t go into detail but says that Pickles had a little accident upstairs, right on the nephew’s jacket. The couple cleaned up Pickles in the shower, but the nephew was furious. He allegedly accused the couple of “making the dog do it on purpose to prove a point.” Guests left shortly after, and a row ensued. Now, the poster explains that the nephew and his mother are demanding £150 for a new jacket. She says that she feels like she’s in the right, but her husband is wavering, leaving her to wonder if she’s the villain.
The story has sparked a debate with over 1000 replies on Reddit, but most comments are firmly in the poster’s court. The top comment, with over 8000 likes, retorts, “A teenager understands don’t feed the dog people food because it upsets his stomach and causes a mess. He deliberately disregarded that and caused your dog unnecessary discomfort and you the trouble of cleaning up the mess.”
Many share similar sentiments, pointing out that 19-year-olds are barely even teenagers and should know better.
However, one commenter plays devil’s advocate and suggests both the couple and the nephew are at fault. “[nephew] because he fully disregarded your warning about your dog and fed him anyway. You because you know your dog has issues, and you know your family is full of unsympathetic AHs. You failed to protect your dog. You probably should have kept Pickles in a separate area inaccessible to your guests. Sounds like Pickles probably would have liked that anyway.”
Others say that their much younger children would behave far better than the alleged 19-year-old.
