Authorities arrested a police officer regarding an alleged kidnapping. His arrest affidavit reportedly says they booked him at a Disney World Resort.
A report by Fox 10 describes the complicated order of events. On May 24, Harrison County officials responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Audubon Lakes Boulevard. When police arrived, they learned that a dog was accidentally injured by ‘recreational gunfire’ at a party. However, another police officer had already escorted the alleged shooter from the building.
The outlet explains that David Cunningham, 22, an officer for the Prichard Police Department, arrived at the residence earlier. Someone at the house reportedly called him. He allegedly entered the building and handcuffed the man who shot the dog. Cunningham then reportedly put the man in the back of his Prichard patrol car, even though he had no authority to do so outside of his home municipality. He then drove away from the party with the handcuffed man in the back seat.
Local deputies spotted Cunningham’s police car, pulled it over, and released the handcuffed 21-year-old. According to a report by People, the suspect was armed and had his Prichard police badge on him when officers stopped him. Following the incident, detectives signed a warrant for Cunningham’s arrest for kidnapping. They also readied a warrant for Kristin Allen, who was riding in the car with Cunningham at the time. She allegedly “helped create and recount different versions of events to authorities” and was wanted for hindering prosecution.
Officers Arrested Cunningham In Disney World Resort
Orange County officers reportedly arrested Cunningham at a Disney Resort on June 3. According to WKRG, his bond will be set at $500,000 once authorities extradite him to Mississippi. The outlet also explains that Allen turned herself in the day before, on June 2. Officials have set her bond at $50,000.
The outlet also explains that the Mobile Police Department has released details about Cunningham’s previous employment. He reportedly resigned from his position with MPD in February 2025 while under administrative investigation. It remains unclear when he started working for Prichard Police.
