I’m sure many of us have pulled sickies during our working or school lives. However, far fewer of us can say our escapades ended up all over social media when our managers believe we’re in bed with a temperature.

Reddit user u/gogifromtanusena took to the r/antiLinkedIn subreddit and described the situation. In a post titled “Pretended to be sick on leave & got caught,” u/gogifromtanusena explains that they bunked off work on a Friday to go on a trip to Coorg. The user explains, “Told my manager I had stomach flu.”

One of the key elements of pulling a sickie is not to draw any unwanted attention. Unfortunately, u/gogifromtanusena says the unthinkable happened. “Got tagged in a background reel of someone dancing at the homestay. Video blew up on Insta. 13K likes,” they wrote.

No amount of damage control can fix that situation, and the poster says that a manager at work spotted the video. Even worse, they sent their employee a link to the viral video and commented, “Hope your stomach is better.”

The User Is Still Employed Despite The Social Media Post

The good news is that party-goer is reportedly still employed, although they may be having a hard time at work for the time being. Their post concludes, “No WFH requests approved since then. He doesn’t trust me now.”

Naturally, the Reddit comment section is always ready to offer some pearls of wisdom. U/Friendly-Quality7670 responded, “Lies are short lived. Never dot. Honesty is far better although unpleasant some time. Another by u/FlowNo4376 simply says, “deleting insta rn.” Adding insult to injury, one user, u/social_sloth 3, sent a link to an Instagram Story about the employee’s misfortune, which already has over 20,000 likes.

Many users turn to Reddit to reveal their embarrassing work stories. Earlier this week, a job applicant blamed Siri for ruining his job interview. The Apple AI assistant reportedly began speaking and repeating what they were saying during their remote session. Panicked, the user tossed their phone out of the room, although they said, “The interviewer looked shocked.” They believe they botched the interview and have no idea if they are still in the running for the position.
