We are firmly in the digital age in 2025, and tech users are comfortable talking to AI assistants. One of the more well-known AIs is Apple’s Siri, and one social media user just blasted it for ruining their job interview.

User Kmsus1 took to Reddit and shared his story on the r/interviews sub. In a post titled “Siri ruined my interview and I’m still shaking,” Kmsus1 explains that they were in the middle of a remote interview, trying their best to sound calm and confident. At least, they were, until Apple’s AI assistant reportedly chimed in. “And suddenly Siri on my phone randomly started talking and REPEATING my answer out loud,” Kmsus1 explains.

The Reddit user says that they panicked. “I tried to mute myself, I tried turning Siri off, nothing worked.” In the spur of the moment, Kmsus1 tossed their phone into another room, but they say the interviewer looked shocked, and they felt embarrassed. Ultimately, Kmsus1 felt like they never recovered from that blip in the interview, and they don’t know if they blew it. Kmsus1 writes, “I don’t know if I’m still in the running for the job or if I completely blew it. But wow. I’m still shaking,” before passing over the mic to see if Siri has played up for anybody else.

Opinions On The Siri Story Are Mixed

Reddit comment sections don’t have a reputation for holding back, and while some of the 2,100 comments empathize, others mock how Kmsus handled the situation. One awarded comment by LeagueAggravating595 says, “You broke one important rule that during an interview you either turn off your phone, mute or turn the volume all the way down. If the phone rings during an interview and you pick it up, your done.”

Another comment by ItBringsOutTheBest, writes, “interviewer adding note to under their list of questions, “tell me how you handled a difficult situation”: “no.”

Many commenters also point out that even if Siri did interrupt an interview, there are so many better ways to handle it. Multiple users point out that the applicant’s overreaction would cost them the job over the tech blip. However, the comments section isn’t entirely one-sided. The top comment by Punkybrewsickle explains they were having a terrible nightmare, and they talked in their sleep. The user allegedly asked Siri to dial 911, which led to dispatch sending officers to their house.
