A couple from Michigan purchased a Lottery Ticket on the same day they celebrated their 25th Anniversary. A 25th Anniversary is also known as a Silver Anniversary, but the ticket they bought was worth more than its weight in gold.
Per Michigan Lottery Connect, the husband and wife, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning ticket from Opdyke Featherstone Mobil, in Auburn Hills. They scored big with one of their favorite tickets. The wife told the outlet, “My husband and I like playing different scratch off tickets, especially the Diamonds & Gold game.” She added, “We scratched this ticket off together on our wedding anniversary, and my husband noticed the $2 million prize first.”
The husband didn’t think they had won anything at first and thought something was wrong with the card. The couple took it back to the store to check it, and that’s when they realized they hit the jackpot. “A message came up to file a claim at the Lottery office,” the wife explained. “so we asked a friend to scan it on her Lottery app. I started shaking and was in total shock when $2 million came up on the screen. It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary!”
The Couple Decided To Claim Their Prize As A Lump Sum
Michigan Lottery Connect explains that the couple chose to collect their winnings all at once. This decision means they actually receive about $1.3 Million instead of the full amount. The outlet says that the winnings are paid in ‘annuity payments’ for the $2 Million.
Regardless, $1.3 Million is a life-changing amount of cash, and the couple plans to buy a house and invest. They also say they will set money aside for their children’s college funds. Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said of the couples good luck, “Congratulations to the lucky player and her husband who had a day they will never forget after winning $2 million on their wedding anniversary!” She added, “It is great to hear that the prize will also have a positive impact on their children by helping fund their future education.”
