A group of teenagers witnessed a raging house fire as they were on the way home on Prom night. They sprung into action and heroically saved a family from the burning building.
According to a report by the Observer Dispatch, the Maynard Fire Department is calling three teenagers‘ heroes’ thanks to their quick thinking. The trio were reportedly dropping their dates off from Whitesboro Junior Prom on May 17. Maynard Fire Chief Jared Pearl reportedly said, “Three young gentlemen were dropping off their dates after the Whitesboro Junior Prom, traveling along Cavanaugh Road, and they came across the garage fire. And by then, it was fully involved.”
The outlet identifies the teens as Aiden Kane, Tyler Sodja, and Donato Jellenich. A fire reportedly broke out in the garage of the house. The family was none the wiser as it was detached from the property. Fortunately, one of the teens’ dates lived nearby, which is why they were in the area.
Kane ran to the house when he saw the garage ablaze and yelled, “Your house is on fire, your house is on fire!” When the family opened the door, he told them, “You guys gotta get out,” before hurrying them away from the building.
The Teens Caught The Fire On Camera
The group recorded the incident and shared the dramatic footage with Observer Dispatch. Kane led the panicked family away as the children started to cry. The footage shows the building quickly becoming engulfed in flames. There were also two loud bangs as if something had exploded in the garage.
Sodja told WKTV in an interview, “I was near the fire. You could hear it. It almost sounded like gunshots popping, so something clearly exploded.” He also noted how quickly the fire spread and how things may have turned out differently if Kane had not alerted the family.
Pearl told the New York Post, “If they didn’t do this, if they didn’t get everyone out and call 911, it may have been three to four minutes before we got there.” He reportedly told Observer Dispatch, “For a horrible situation, it came together well. And it’s all because of these young kids.”
