Queen Amidala came to slay.
On March 17th Twitter user @prasejeebus posted a tweet raising awareness of Padme Amidala’s fabulous, extreme style in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Padme, the Queen and eventual senator of Naboo, is known in the Star Wars universe for her range of outfits from extravagant and elaborate to functional but stylish over the course of Episodes I – III. Whether she’s acting as the young Queen of Naboo or addressing the Galactic Senate, Padme’s outfits always leave an impression.
Take, for example, Padme’s Galactic Senate Dress, a nod to Naboo’s cultural history. The layered, high collar, wide-shouldered dress with a removable dramatic cloak is one of the most iconic looks in any Star Wars movie. Not to mention the unforgettable arcing headpiece with dangling ornamentation.
Similarly, Padme’s Regal Gown is a traditional Queen’s costume on her planet. The red robe with dark fur trim features billowing sleeves, a broad hem, and self-illuminating jewels.
When she’s not fulfilling her diplomatic obligations, Padme dresses for comfort and practicality but still manages to look fierce – like the time she and Anakin went to Geonosis in Episode II. Her white jumpsuit, cream-colored shawl, and high tan boots prepared Padme for action while her slick, looped bun kept her hair out of the way.
And who could forget the Picnic Dress from Padme’s romantic chill sesh in the meadows of Naboo with Anakin? Decorated with little white embroidered flowers and leaves, this olive-gold summer dress hangs elegantly off her bare shoulders as ribbons cascade down from the sleeves. Ever a fan of headpieces, the green headband and side buns emphasize the flirty tight curls that lightly frame her face.
It’s about time we recognized how on point Padme was for 3 movies. It’s no wonder Leia grew up to have such a unique style of her own.
