Gone are the days of people taking off their engagement rings while they cook and clean. Gone are the days of spending money on a metal band to keep some precious jewel on your finger. Now, they're going to take that jewel and drill it right into your finger. So, ask yourself: just what kind of pain are you willing to go through to be with the one you love?

People magazine reported on a story of the increasingly-popular trend of people getting diamond dermal piercings on their ring fingers in lieu of getting engagement rings. A few body piercers commented on the trend's effectiveness and how body piercers have been doing it for almost a decade but the trend is only really snowballing now.

Do you really love your partner if you're not willing to drill a diamond into your finger? Just some food for thought.

The first concern when getting a jewel sunk into your finger would obviously be: is this safe?

Professional body piercer Billy DeBerry told People that "Micro dermal anchors are safe and the body will hold them for years, as long as they're in ideal places and if implant-grade titanium is used". DeBerry continued on by commenting that dermal piercings have been done for over a decade but social media exposure has led to a massive increase in the trend's popularity.

While the end-result may deter a few people at first glance, DeBerry further explained to People that the process of doing a dermal piercing takes only a few seconds and that it can be easily and safely removed. He goes on to say that the pain isn't too bad, but it will depend on the person, as some people handle pain differently from others. So if you're one who doesn't have the highest of pain tolerance, maybe stick to a regular engagement ring.

Imagine getting down on one knee to propose to a loved one and instead of pulling out a box with a ring in it, you pull out a giant needle?

On second thought, it's probably best not to surprise somebody with a dermal piercing...always talk these things through!
