The perfect Valentine's Day tweet.
This Valentine’s Day, the internet was blessed with a truly #CoupleGoals moment when the one and only Kristen Bell tweeted a list outlining what makes her marriage to Dax Shephard successful.
Actress Kristen Bell and actor Dax Shepard have been together for just over ten years, and got married back in 2013. According to Kristen’s tweet, she was writing a congratulatory note to two friends of hers who were getting married, and wasn’t satisfied with simply congratulating them. In the note that’s gone viral, she describes her formula for a happy marriage.
In the note, Bell describes the importance of remaining vulnerable and accepting one another’s flaws, the necessity of spending time apart and allowing for separate interests and emotional needs, and the beauty of going through life alongside a partner.
Twitter users were quick to voice support and agreement with Bell’s note of advice:

It’s not the first time the couple have offered tough love relationship advice to the internet. Back in December, Shepard told Us Weekly, “We don’t believe in The One. We don’t believe in the fairytale. We don’t believe that you can meet someone and you have a perfectly matching personalities… We are opposites and it has taken a tremendous amount of work and therapy for us to coexist.”
And in August, Bell told Us Weekly, “Our marriage took a lot of work, takes a lot of work. I don’t think people realize… It is not easy to work around another human being, but if you commit to it, you can pretty much permanently respect that person, but then it doesn’t really matter if you disagree because you still respect that person.”
Bell and Shepard met at a birthday dinner for a mutual friend back in 2007, and though they didn’t hit it off immediately, they reconnected soon after and started dating that same year. They have two daughters together, born in 2013 and 2014.
If they’ve learned all this in just a few years of marriage, we can’t wait to see what kind of advice they’ll have for us in the decades to come.
