Not everyone got an invite, so the adult cast stepped up.
When some of the young cast members of NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ found out they weren’t in enough episodes to qualify for an invite to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, their castmates took action. Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley both gave up their plus-ones to bring their younger counterparts.
Metz plays Kate Pearson on the show, and actress Mackenzie Hancsicsak plays the 10-year-old version of Kate. Hancsicsak, along with the other young actors and actresses who play the child version of the show’s characters in ‘This Is Us’ flashbacks, are only called upon when needed and appear irregularly in the series. Because of this, Hancsicsak did not appear in enough episodes to be invited to the SAG Awards, so Metz took her along as her date.
In a tweet, Hancsicsak thanked Metz for giving her the opportunity to attend the awards show. “Just want 2 thank Miss @ChrissyMetz again 4 very graciously & selflessly giving up her plus one so I could attend the SAG awards. Some of the kid ensemble didn’t appear in enough episodes 2 qualify, but when the adults found out, they stepped up & offered their plus one. Thank U!”

In a post on her Instagram story, Chrishell Hartley told her followers that her husband, Justin Hartley, who portrays Kevin Pearson on ‘This Is Us’, also gave his plus one to Logan Shroyer, the actor who portrays Kevin as a child.
Bustle reports that Hartley said in her post, “You’re probably wondering why I’m not there. I am meeting my husband right now at the after party… he very lovely gave my ticket to Logan who unfortunately wasn’t invited even though he’s not a huge part of the cast… They went by minutes, apparently however many minutes you were on the show, certain people got invited, certain people didn’t (because) they didn’t have… enough airtime. Which is ridiculous, everyone should be there!”
The SAG Awards were a big night for This Is Us. The show took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and Sterling K. Brown won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. And, thanks to the kindness of the adult actors, the young members of the cast were able to experience this unforgettable night.
