The early 2000s are calling, they want to bring back their hair trends! Chunky highlights are back...
Chunky highlights were a thing in the past, and the cringeworthy color/design may be trying to resurge.
An updated version of the early-2000s trend was posted on Instagram and it’s starting to gain a lot of attention…
Hairdresser, Luisa Badillo, posted a photo of a girl with stripey, chunky, highlights, on her Instagram and we don’t know how to feel.
The perfectly distributed highlights do make for an aesthetically pleasing visual, at least to some of the commenters on the post.
One person commented: “Ahhhh…the evenness of it all is so soothing…..”
And a second person appreciated the technique, saying: “Awesome placement!! With no bleeding !!!! And right to the scalp!! Awesome job!!!”
A different Instagram account, that is devoted to all crazy hair trends/inspirations, also shared Luisa’s photo, saying:
“So this is not for everyone but it’s pure art to me ???? when you let hair fall naturally it looks pretty blended.”
These thick black and white highlights are giving us Christina Aguilera vibes from her ‘Dirrty’ video back in the day…
But it also looks like it’s giving tribute to some Cruella De Vil hair, too!
In Luisa’s comments section of her post, a user asked how she did the stripe effect; Luisa replied that she would make a video about it. So if you happen to be a hairdresser or just want to attempt the perfection of the stripes, stay tuned!
What do you think about the chunky highlights attempting to return back into the hair trend world?
I think actually might’ve wanted them, back in the day, but my parents would never let me color my hair like that. But in current times, I will say that I’m going to pass on this one.
