From the sound of it, it doesn't look like I was the only one who was let down by this promotion, either due to the limited quantity, or the limited shades included in the promotion.
If you didn’t know, MAC Cosmetics promised the public that they could receive a free full-sized lipstick this past Saturday.
Well, I kept my word and made my way over to the MAC Store on the Plaza in Kansas City, and it didn’t work out so well for me. From the sound of it, it doesn’t look like I was the only one who was let down by this promotion, either due to the limited quantity, or the limited shades included in the promotion. Before we get to that, here’s my story…
I will blame my lack of free lipstick to the fact that I woke up 20 minutes before the doors opened. My excuse- the parking in the Plaza area was packed!
After parking my car, my friend and I got out to see this:
A line of people wrapped around the side of the building. Crazy right?
We walked to the back parking lot right behind the Starbucks. Luckily since it was still semi-early in the day, the temperature wasn’t too hot for anyone, but still…we waited a while.
It got to a point of a long stand-still that my friend ordered an iced coffee on her phone and went into the Starbucks, while I held our place in line.
To give you a timeline:
We arrived at the scene at 10 am.
Waited in line until 10:35 am.
Then a MAC employee sadly announced that they were running low on lipsticks and the rest of us would not be able to receive one.
Thank goodness that the Starbucks was there, because you know I was going to get my iced soy vanilla latte, regardless of the lipstick outcome. Although I couldn’t really get too upset about this, because in the end, it was just a free lipstick and I didn’t have to purchase anything or sign up for a subscription, to get the deal.
I’m more of a Tarte kind of girl anyway, so it wasn’t the end of the world to me to miss out on this promotion.
And like we said in our article about the deal, no one was for sure about the lipstick shades and how it worked, so no harm no foul.
Some people were a little salty about it though…
.#MAClipstick giveaway a complete joke. I counted 120 women ahead of me when @Myer Carindale opened I missed out @MACcosmetics #dontbother

Not even worth the wait…
Walked in to @Nordstrom, saw 300 people in line for free #maclipstick. pic.twitter.com/Edv2RPXvGu

The shade!!!
However, some people were lucky enough to receive a lipstick, and their reactions are what I expected:
The ‘wide variety of color’ selection

A little too blue, huh?
Hey @maccosmetics can I exchange this for a color I might actually wear when I'm not on tour with my punk band? #maclipstick #maccosmetics pic.twitter.com/LBG9QJOeuX

Did you go to your local MAC this weekend for National Lipstick Day? Or did you predict this to happen?
