About a month ago, Chaos Makeup started to blow up on social media with its unique and colorful Kaleidoscope Rainbow Highlighter, and most recently the company’s Color Shifting Creams. After getting noticed, its founder, Megan Martinez shared her story of how working to overcome struggles with living day to day lead to the success of her company.

Using Makeup, Megan & “Chaos” Rebelled Against Her Struggles

In an interview with Allure, Megan talked about how she was once a homeless teenager, working odd jobs to get by. But one odd job really stood out to her: she would do her friend’s makeup for any special event that came up at school. Megan explained that at the time, “Makeup was a means of survival.” By the age of 15, Megan was a self-proclaimed full-time freelance makeup artist.

After finding her style, she eventually created her own Myspace account with the name ChaosMakeupArtist. She chose the name based off of her ‘punk-rock’ themes when it came to makeup looks. She said, “Everything I did was crazy and chaotic, even my appearance was chaotic. But it actually worked well for PR purposes, later on.”

Megan had found her identity for her growing brand, but the “Chaos” identity shared its own period of struggle.

Despite Her Haters, Megan Pioneered The Concept Of Glow In Highlighters

Back in the day, before highlighting was a vital step in everyday makeup routines, people didn’t understand the concept of ‘glow’ or the purpose of makeup highlighters. Megan said that she was actually known for her highlighting, but received flak for it because “people thought it was gross and greasy.” But Megan didn’t care and continued to rebel, by making her own concoctions of colored highlighters on others and herself. And eventually, it worked. Really worked.

“Chaos” Found Its Success

Megan first found real success in making her own highlighters and selling them to smaller companies and workshops. She then decided to take her cosmetic product to the next level. Megan worked on the company by changing the name to Chaos Makeup and perfecting the colorful highlighters in the process. Once the formulations were finished, she sold six different highlighters.

You know the Internet, and how it freaks out over the weirdest trends? Well, obviously a rainbow highlighter is going to gain attention with all of the rainbow/unicorn hype. And so her product blew up online and was featured on different websites and social media accounts.

The company’s Instagram account @chaosmakeup started to gain more of a following, with over 146,000 followers looking at the pretty pictures they frequently post.

Megan’s Hardworking Ethic Proves That She’s Still Fighting For What’s Really Important

Her dedication to quality, cruelty-free cosmetics shows no signs of stopping, and she wants to give everyone access. Her company is based in Texas and ships worldwide.

Megan’s success is pretty amazing for someone who is self-taught! We can’t wait to see what more Chaos Makeup comes up with and are so proud of Megan for following her dream!

This is a pretty incredible story of a girl who didn’t have much but worked hard for what she wanted and utilized her tools to become successful. And with all of Megan’s success, she’s happy in the fact that she’s creating these products that go along with her dream of becoming an animal activist.
