Emily Has A Rare Autoimmune Disease And Faced It In An Awesome Way
This girl from London is Emily Jones and she is a self-taught makeup artist. She’s been posting her variety of great looks all over her Instagram page.
But life has faced Emily with some big challenges. She has a feeding tube for her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (Type 3), rare autoimmune disease. On top of her autoimmune disease, Emily has also been wheelchair-bound since she was 17-years-old.
Instead of feeling down and out, Emily faced her challenge head on, and chose to approach her everyday style with confidence. Emily spoke with Allure telling them how she creates her makeup looks. “I create looks around my tube by leaving a little bit of a gap around the edges so the tape doesn’t come off or come loose,” Emily says. “I try to put lots of drama on my eyes, the other side of my face or on my lips to detract from the tube. But the tube is a part of me, and I’m grateful for it as it and the nourishment it gives me when I can’t keep anything down myself.”
Emily Freed Herself From Judgment And Made Some Incredible Looks
While some people may think of makeup as ‘unnatural’ and unnecessary, it can really help people boost their confidence and make them feel fearless. “Makeup means everything to me it gives me the confidence to be myself without the judgment of others,” Emily explains. “Makeup takes away the self-consciousness I feel because of my NG tube and makes me feel gorgeous!” Emily deals with her personal challenges on her own terms, and accepts her limitations while moving past them; and she doesn’t ask for help.
Her Inspiration Proves That Beauty And Body Positivity Is On The Rise
Emily prides herself in being self-taught through inspiration she gained from beauty vloggers. She gives YouTube all of the credit in helping improve her skills in makeup application and creative tutorials: “I have watched Carli Bybel and Nikkie Tutorials from the start, and they started off my love for makeup.” This goes to show just how far women on Youtube, and even those they inspire, have come to impact the world.
