Most women today can vividly remember playing with their Barbie doll collection. They were a big part of many people’s childhood. Barbie helped young girls explore their imagination and dream big for the future. But with the increasingly strict ideal body images set by society, everything that potentially displays a distorted body image is instantly shamed, and Barbie is no difference. She has been under a lot of fire recently for the unrealistic beauty standards she sets with her disproportionate body and face and for not being very racially diverse.
To remind people that the original intent of Barbie was to spark creativity and ambition in young girls, Mattel has released a video called “Imagine the Possibilities.” Try to watch this without smiling.
