15 Hacks To Fix The Worst Clothing Emergencies

By Kelsey Stoskopf
Luna Vandoorne

Not all emergencies can be solved by Olivia Pope from "Scandal." Clothing emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere. To save yourself a moment of embarrassment, check out these hacks for the next time your wardrobe goes awry.

Replace Your Lost Earring Backs

Those pesky earring backs like to fall off way too much. Well, instead of digging around your jewelry drawer for another back, use a pencil eraser instead. Just pop it on the back of your earring for a temporary hold.

Fix Your Broken Strap

Probably the worst thing to happen while you’re out running errands isn’t spending way too much at Target (because let’s be honest, that’s going to happen no matter what,) it’s your bra strap breaking. Don’t worry though, no need to stop shopping. Loosen the broken strap a lot and then tie it in a knot so it holds through out your shopping trip.

A Simple Trick To A Seamless Hem

If you find a pair of jeans you love but they’re just a little too long, buy them anyway! Simply fold the jean under to fit your height and secure with a piece of duct tape or packing tape until you can find time to sew them.

Repair Broken Glasses With Earring Studs

Sometimes you get hit in the head with a soccer ball and your glasses fall off and break. If this happens to you, don’t freak out. Take out your stud earrings and use them to put your glasses back together.

Use A Little Gum To Hold Heels In Place

Ugh, the dreaded broken heel. The one thing that can ruin a good night out (okay, not the only thing, but you get the point.) Pop in a piece of gum, chew it real quick and place it on your broken heel to hold in place while you finish dancing the night away. Of course, gum won’t hold forever so as soon as your get home, fix them with glue.

Keep Your Suede Flawless With Emery Boards

Suede heels are to die for. But, the dirt they attract is not. Use an emery board to buff the dirt off and slip those sleek heels back on.

Find Your Lost String With A Straw

Losing the string inside your Nike shorts or hoodies is seriously the worst thing ever. It’s like losing a best friend you can never get back. Well, use this simple hack to rethread that string in no time. Thread the string into a straw, staple it and push it back through your shorts or hoodie!

Cover Up With A Cute Scarf

If you’re clumsy like us, you know all too well the embarrassment that comes with spilling food on yourself. Keep an extra scarf or jacket in your desk at work and use it to cover up next time you spill!

Get Rid Of Unwanted Wrinkles

Wrinkled dresses and shirts are the worst when you’re trying to impress someone. Although this won’t work for a shirt that looks like it’s been crumpled for days, if there’s a little wrinkled spot, try this. Wet your hand with water and flick onto the wrinkled part. Once damp, place the wrinkled part under a hand dryer until dry. Goodbye unkept wrinkles!

Repair Your Fav Necklace With Ease

There’s no need to throw away your favorite necklace once the chain breaks. Repair it by using paper clips to make a necklace again. Make sure to wear your hair down to cover up the paperclips!

Keep Your Zipper In Place

You’ll never get caught with your fly open again with this simple hack. Hold up a loose zipper by using a clear elastic hair tie. Just loop the hair tie around the pull of the zipper to make a loop that fits around your button!

Never Get Poked Again

Do you have a painful wire in your bra that keeps sticking you? Don’t throw away the bra (those things are expensive); instead stick a piece of Moleskin padding to cover up the wire.

Secure Loose Buttons With Nail Polish

If you notice a loose button on your favorite flannel as you’re running out the door, grab some clear nail polish, dab it on the button and it’ll stay in place for a day or two. Make sure to go back and sew it later!

Or Hide The Whole Completely

Or, if your button pops clearly off and it’s no where to be found, just cover up the spot with a gorgeous pin. No one will know the difference!

Keep Your Collars In Place

Popped collars are so 2000s. Make sure your collars stay down and in place by putting some fabric peel-and-stick adhesive on the inside of the collar.
