Is It Really That Bad To Go To Bed With Wet Hair?

By Kelsey Stoskopf

We've been told over and over that letting your hair air dry is far better than constant heat from a blow dryer. But, we've also been told sleeping with wet hair can damage or break your hair too! What are we supposed to do if we love showering at night?!

Well, here are a few reasons why sleeping with wet hair is a major no no. If you sleep with your hair wet tied up in a bun or pony, you may be causing your hairline to recede if tied too tightly. Now that is a scary reason to stop tying your wet hair up instantly! Another reason deals with the strength of the hair strands. When hair is wet it is much more fragile than when it is dry. If you toss and turn at night you are putting your wet hair under a lot of stress. Dry hair can manage the movement, but with wet hair it can cause breakage and split ends.

But, now us late night showerers can sleep with wet hair in peace, if done the right way, of course. If you have to sleep with wet hair make sure it is kept down and leave a little time after showering before bed to let your hair air dry abut. Letting it air dry until it's damp is better for your hair than going to bed right out of the shower, towel still wrapped around your body. Lastly, add a little product, like moisturizing oil, to help stop breakage, flyaways, frizz and damage. Shower any time you'd like, but keep your wet hair in mind!
