Mariah Carey is one of the most iconic and influential pop stars of the last few decades. Rolling Stones even voted her the fifth-best singer of all time in 2023 out of their list of 200 artists. Many music and movie personalities go against the grain in one way or another, and Mariah’s unusual quirk is how she sees the passage of time.
According to a report by People, Carey was a guest on the UK radio station Capital FM 95.8 on June 16. During her live segment, the show’s hosts, Chris Stark, Sian Welby, and Jordan North, asked the singer several questions. They also inquired about the singer’s perception of time.
North asked, “Is it true you don’t acknowledge the passing of time?” to which the ‘Touch My Body’ singer simply replied, “That is true.” When pressed about what that means, she explained, “I just don’t believe in it.”
Welby reportedly asked, “So no clocks? Just not into that?” Carey replied, “Yeah. No, just let it go.” Before changing topics, The host asked if the singer celebrated her birthday. She clarified, “I don’t have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes.”
How Could You Arrange Anything With Mariah Carey Without Time?
Puzzled by the pop stars’ stance on time, Stark asked, “But if we were to meet up later, how would we know when?” Carey calmly responded, “Yeah, I would have someone call you and figure it out.”
While the singer does not celebrate her birthday, she does have an anniversary every year on March 27. This year, the ‘Obsessed’ singer posted an image of her enjoying the waves on Instagram riding what appears to be a jetski.
She wrote a short message on the post, which reads, “Thank you lambily for the anniversary wishes and for always making me so happy!!!” Carey uses the word ‘lambily’ as a term of endearment for her fans.
The radio show isn’t the first time the singer has explained her beliefs about time. Back in 2014, Carey did an interview with Out where she clarified, “I don’t count years, but I definitely rebuke them. I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.” She later asked the outlet to put a ‘LOL’ after the quote, “because people are going to be, like, WTF?”
