A woman stumbled across a paycheck while she was walking and decided to return it to its owner. She recorded her journey in a TikTok video, which has now gone viral.
According to People, Jen Ewing’s good deed has had a tremendous impact after it was viewed over a million times. “I was on my morning walk, and I spotted this check on the sidewalk,” Ewing explains. “And I thought to myself, what if my name was on it.” She says she made a “long trek” to reunite the owner with their check. Her journey eventually led her to a restaurant.
Ewing walks in and explains her find to a worker who exclaims, “Holy cow!” She says, “The excitement from everybody was the dopamine high I didn’t even know I needed.” One of the workers explained that they may have dropped it while riding their bike, and they were relieved somebody else hadn’t picked it up. As she was about to leave, restaurant staff offered her a complimentary hotdog, which Ewing described was “absolutely amazing.”
Ewing Was Reminded Of A Conversation She Had In An Uber
In an interview with People, Ewing explained that finding the check reminded her of a conversation she had with an Uber driver. The driver told her that they had checks of their own stolen in the past. He also explained the sophisticated techniques thieves can use, including a process called ‘check washing.'”
The free hotdog was an unexpected bonus, but Ewing said she has a follow-up plan. She told People that she earned a small amount of money from the success of her viral video. She reportedly said, “I made a little bit of cash off of that video. So I’m going to go back as soon as that money hits my account. And then match the check that I found on the ground and give it to them. If it wasn’t for him or losing the check, I would just never even have made a little bit of money. And I appreciate the money that I made.”
The TikTok video has hundreds of comments praising the noble deed. One comment by Harry.Wrecked.Um, with over 14k likes, reads, “Free food always tastes the best, especially when it’s earned with honesty.” Many others share the same sentiment.
