Store-bought energy drinks are terrible for your body, but many people rely on that energy boost to power their workouts or just get through their day. Thankfully, you do have other options. There are some delicious and healthy energy drinks that you can make at home! So stop consuming the added chemicals and mounds of sugar to get that boost you need, and start being smart about your energy.

The Quick Fix

Cut two slices of an inch of fresh ginger root and place it into your cup, and use a garlic press to juice the rest of the ginger. Throw in a fourth teaspoon of ground cardamom and a fourth teaspoon of turmeric, then fill the cup with hot water and stir. Add a couple of teaspoons of honey and you’ve got yourself a homemade energy drink that’s sure to wake you up.

The Cocolina

All you need for this effective energy drink is coconut water, spirulina powder, and a water bottle. Simply add a half teaspoon of spirulina powder to a water bottle filled with coconut water and shake it up. Spirulina is an algae that is jam-packed with magnesium, amino acids, B vitamins, and potassium, so it’s a health boost in addition to an energy boost.

The Fire Hydrant

One of the best natural ways to replenish your energy is by staying hydrated. This simple drink is just a glass of water with a slice of lemon and a pinch of cayenne pepper. The lemon and cayenne are natural energy boosters, but what really kicks it up is drinking 3-4 glasses of this a day since it will keep you hydrated and healthy.

The Apple Cider Kickstart

Apple cider vinegar has long been heralded in the health community for its helpful properties, and it is also a great energy booster. Add 2 teaspoons of raw apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of cold water, and then 2 teaspoons of pure maple syrup or raw agave syrup. Diabetics can substitute yacon syrup, raw coconut nectar, of 4 drops of stevia for the syrup.

Strawberry-Infused Sports Drink

Here’s a drink that is built for a morning runner. Mix the following ingredients together: 3 cups of hot water, a half cup of orange juice, the squeezed juice of one lemon, 2 tablespoons of honey, a fourth tablespoon of salt, and a half container of sliced strawberries (or the berry of your choice). Allow it to sit in your fridge overnight, and in the morning you can either strain to remove the berries or leave them in as a snack.

The Heavy Lifter

One of the reasons you might feel fatigued is a lack of protein in your diet. Drink this protein shake in the morning and you’ll have energy that will last all day. Open your blender and throw in a ripe banana, a fourth cup of raw almonds or 2 tbsp almond butter, a scoop of high quality whey protein powder, 2 washed kale leaves, a half cup of plain yogurt, a tablespoon of ground flax seeds, and a cup of milk of your choice.

The Lay-Low Recipe

Coconut water is an energy drink all by itself, but sometimes, you can add something that livens up the flavor. Blend a fourth cup of fresh squeezed lime juice, a fourth cup of lemon juice, and 2 cups of coconut water. Throw in an eighth teaspoon of sea salt and 2 tablespoons of honey, and blend until the honey is dissolved.

Orange Flax Smoothie

Oranges provide your body with the most energy-packed minerals an B vitamins, and flax oil slows the release of fruit sugar into your bloodstream, meaning you’ll still be getting energy from the combination for hours to come. Simply blend 5 peeled, sweet, seedless oranges and 3 tablespoons of cold-pressed flax oil with a half cup of cold water.

Cherry-Lemon Sports Drink

Studies show that tart cherry juice aids in muscle recovery. This drink combines carbohydrates, sodium and potassium for a great health booster.
