11 Reasons To Buy Organic Food

By Minq Team

Many people think buying organic food is a waste of time. Here are eleven reasons why organically grown food is a great investment for your health, your kids, and the environment.

No Chemicals

It is shocking how many chemicals are added to commercially grown food, making this the number one reason to buy organic. Did you know there are more than 600 chemicals registered for agricultural use in America? That’s about 16 pounds of pesticides and chemicals per person each year! Organic foods are grown in chemical-free environments. If that’s not a good enough reason, I don’t know what is.

Farmer’s Markets

If your main worry is cost, hit up your local farmer’s market. In season fruits and veggies are actually cheaper than grocery store prices. You will be getting healthy food at a fraction of the cost, while supporting local farmers and enjoying a nice morning.

Non-GMO

GMO’s or genetically modified organisms have taken over our food supply, especially soy, corn, and oil based products. GMO’s are actually illegal in most countries since there haven’t been any studies performed on the long-term effects. Food that is organically grown cannot be genetically modified in any way so it’s a great way to make sure potentially harmful products stay out of your diet.

More Nutrients

Organic foods are believed to have more nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. This is because the soil is maintained by sustainable practices and isn’t polluted with chemicals and pesticides.

Taste

Foods that are organically grown are known to taste better than non-organic. Commercially grown foods are altered and created to look better. This sometimes includes dyes for a more vibrant color, whereas organic soil is nourished to create strong and healthy plants. Don’t take my word for it. Try for yourself!

Avoid Hormones and Drugs

It’s scary how many harmful substances are in commercial meat and diary products. More than 90% of the pesticides Americans consume are from meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and diary. And don’t forget about all the drugs and growth hormones given to the animals to make them grow bigger faster. Eating organic meat is a great way to avoid these harmful substances.

Eco-Friendly

Organic farming supports the eco-system and works in harmony with nature. Soil is preserved, crops are rotated, and the wildlife is allowed to play its natural role in the ecological world without interference. It is possible to prosper from the ecosystem without destroying it.

Reduced Pollution

The certified organic standards require strict responsible management of healthy soil. Since organic farmers aren’t pumping pesticides and chemicals into their farms, they aren’t contaminating the land, air, or water.

Agricultural Diversity

History has shown that relying too heavily on one or two variations of a food is a recipe for disaster. Does the Irish potato famine ring a bell? Well due to genetic engineering, 75% of agricultural diversity has been lost. Organic farms depend on crop rotation as a simple way to keep soil healthy, reduce the need for pesticides, and diversify foods. This will prevent history from repeating itself.

Support Healthy Farming

The American government gives billions of dollars to commercial farms, which is why their products are much cheaper. But beware of the hidden costs like hazardous waste cleanup. Organic foods might be a little more expensive, but will actually save money in the future.

Keep Your Future Safe

With more and more harmful effects being discovered due to the chemicals and pesticides put in food, buying organic food is a great way to ensure the safety of yourself, your children and generations to come. Organic farmers are not just worried with making a profit, but also the sustainability of the environment.
