If you feel yourself getting sick, then you may want to consider making a few changes in your diet. There are a number of foods that can suppress your immune system. Here are some of the foods that you will need to avoid when you are getting sick.

Acidic and Spicy Foods

Spicy foods can help alleviate nasal congestion. However, they can upset your stomach. You may experience discomfort and pain if you eat acidic or spicy foods while you are sick.

Fried Foods

You should avoid fried foods, such as potato chips and French fries, if you are sick. These foods can trigger inflammation. They are also very high in saturated fat.

Sugar

You should avoid any type of sugary food when you are sick. Sugar has been shown to suppress the immune system. In fact, sugar may begin suppressing your immune system 30 minutes after you consume it.

Refined Grains

Refined grains, such as enriched pasta and white flour, should be avoided. They suppress your immune system. Refined grains also contain little fiber, so whole grains are a better choice.

Red Meat

Red meat is a great source of iron, which the body needs to create red blood cells. However, red meat has also been shown to trigger inflammation. You should opt for healthier choices, such as salmon.

Sodas

Sodas are filled with sugar, which can weaken the immune system. They also contain very little nutrients. Keep in mind that sodas are just as bad for you because they contain artificial sweeteners, which also weaken the immune system.

Fruit Juices

When many people feel themselves getting sick, they begin drinking a lot of fruit juice. While fruit juices are high in many vitamins and minerals, they are also loaded with sugar. It is better to eat real fruit instead of drinking fruit juices.

Dairy

Dairy products, such as cheese and milk, may aggravate some people. Dairy products have also been shown to increase the production of mucus. If you have a craving for some ice cream, then you may want to consider trying frozen fruit bars.

Alcohol

Alcohol has a tendency to dehydrate you, which can make you feel worse. In order for you to keep your immune system strong and get better more quickly, you must keep yourself hydrated. Alcohol also weakens your immune system, so you will need to avoid it if you feel yourself getting sick.
