Adopting healthy habits in your twenties can help you develop a long-lasting healthy outlook on life. The rewards of starting healthy habits in your twenties are a happier, more rewarding life and longer lifespan.

Regular Exercise

As you age your metabolism won't always run high like in your twenties; instead, it slows. Regular exercise helps to build a strong metabolism as well as it can help prevent diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Don't Smoke

If you have started smoking, stop. If you haven't, good for you and avoid the temptation. Smoking causes a wide range of illness and disease and can cause premature aging. Break the habit now or it’ll only get harder to break!

Yearly Physicals

Yearly physicals help catch and prevent current and future medical problems. Yearly exams should consist of an OBGYN check for women, and urology check for guys.

Eating Habits

Living off pizza and junk food in your twenties may seem harmless; however, sooner or later those pizza pounds will take their toll. Eating a healthy diet of six servings of fruits and vegetables every day helps prevent illness and diseases now and in the future.

Sunscreen

Sports, swimming, and other activities keep you outdoors in the sun. Keep your skin protected with an SPF of at least 15. Even with regular use of sunscreen, check your skin regularly for unusual moles or lesions.

Safe Sex

It's not a new concept. You've heard it before that safe sex can help lower your risks for multiple communicable diseases, not to mention unplanned pregnancy. Your twenties are a time when this is most important.

Plenty Of Sleep

It may be tempting to stay on the go, but your body needs its down time too. Eight to nine hours is the recommended number of hours of sleep each night to keep your brain and body functioning at its optimum.

Posture

Your twenties is prime time for sitting behind a desk at work. This is hard on the spine and over time can lead to a hunch in the upper back. Practice sitting straight and keeping your spine in alignment for good posture.

Strengthen Your Bones

Your bone mass will top-out in your twenties. Start protecting them now with weight bearing exercises like hiking, running, and weight training.

De-Stress

Work, family, and life can create a lot of stress. Mounting stress can lead to physical problems like heart attacks. De-stress with mediation, yoga, spa treatments or other relaxation techniques.

Dental Checks

Routine dental checks help prevent unwanted cavities and tooth decay. Untreated dental caries can lead to tooth and gum problems in the future.

Limit Alcohol Intake

Social drinking is common among those in their twenties. Keeping a tight reign on the amount of alcohol you drink will keep you healthier and feeling more energetic.

Immunizations

Make sure you've received all your childhood immunizations, including tetanus. Also, schedule yourself for a yearly flu shot.

Spend Wisely

Yes, overspending can play a role in your health. Learn now, how to spend wisely and save for your future.

Stop The Worry

Worrying can deplete you energy, lower your immune system and cause lack of sleep. Prioritize your life and put your worries aside.

BMI

Keeping within your body mass index is important. Excess body weight is physically and emotionally straining. Talk to your doctor to find out what your BMI should be.

Make Friends

Having good friends to talk to and hang out with can do a lot for your spirits. Staying social and interacting with others will keep you feeling young, and has actually been shown to lengthen your lifespan!
