11 Questions To Ask Before Choosing a Gym

By Minq Team
Luna Vandoorne

Joining a gym is the easiest way to motivate and enable yourself to get in shape. But there are so many choices that it can be pretty daunting to select the perfect facility for you. Before you decide on a gym to join, be sure that you can answer these questions.

What Are Its Hours?

Many fall in love with either late-night workouts or early-morning training. This is because utter quiet and privacy in a clean, lush gym is fantastic. Make sure a gym has this option or the hours that matter to you.

Does It Have My Needs In A Locker Room?

You may exercise between work shifts or before outside engagements so the showers need to be satisfactory. Certain days you might use the bathroom to shave or even brush your teeth. Make sure locker rooms feel private and practical enough for your needs.

Do They Have The Right Equipment?

Most think a pay-to-use gym has practically everything. This could not be further from the truth. You will be shocked to find some gyms do not have free-weights, some have no fun-to-try cable-resistance gear, and that your current favorite selection has only one ab-machine that barely works.

How Is Their Selection Of Extras?

Things like a juice bar, sauna, or swimming pool increase enjoyment. On-staff professional trainers are a bonus. Each gym has unique extras you’ll want to peruse.

Where Is It Located?

When it’s too far from home or work, problems arise. Make sure it is nearby or within an easy-to-get-to route. Ideally, you want to be able to get there quickly on any whim.

What Do Current Members Think?

Talking to present members, following up on a friend’s recommendation or checking reviews will best reveal pro and cons. Such sources have all the juicy details. Their news may be enough to change your mind.

Do The Instructors Seem Fun And Professional?

You remember high school; you loved and hated certain teachers there. It is the same here. Consider watching a class or meeting staff before signing a contract.

When Is It Most Crowded?

Any staff member will tell you the answer in two seconds but it’s important. Your schedule may disallow you time to get away for certain periods. You want to know the gym will not be overrun by classes or commuters hogging every machine.

What Is The Pricing Structure?

Often aerobic classes cost extra or there are hidden annual charges. You don’t want to feel blindsided. Read the fine print and ask questions.

Does It Have The Cardio Options I Want?

Boring cardio sessions drain you. You want your favorite type available always. Some gyms have attached basketball courts or carpeted, indoor-running tracks; choices like these are a dream on days you’re sick of treadmills.

Is It Clean?

Janitors are paid to clean gyms, but when do they do so and how often? It can make a major difference. Sweaty crowds are known to trash such places to death.
