Fitness is a multi-billion dollar industry, with countless classes, programs, and groups you can join in your quest to shed a few pounds. Some enjoy the Gym, and Zumba is always a popular option. However, many find those environments intimidating, which is an issue one unique Fitness class definitely solves.
Per a report by BrantBeacon, Joan Minnery, and Christine Wallace debuted a new fitness program with bangers by the King of Rock n’ Roll at the center. The program is called CROONERcize, and over 50 people reportedly showed up to the event on May 20.
The founders told the outlet, “We wanted to do a health and wellness type event in January just to help people kick off the year and get them moving. We ended up having such a great turnout, and people started asking if Joan would do it again, so we’ve been trying to host it once a month since then.”
Gym attire and training aren’t required for CROONERcize. In fact, a media release for the event encourages quite the opposite. “Attendees are encouraged to dress in Elvis-inspired attire or 50s-70s themed costumes,” The advert explains. “This interactive “CROONERcize” evening combines Elvis Presley’s iconic music with fitness and dance moves designed for participants of all ability levels.”
Minnery reportedly said of the event, “We’ve created a fun, nostalgic environment where people can improve their health while celebrating the music of Elvis Presley.”
The Fitness Event Also Raises Money For The Local Legion
There is a $5 admission fee for the monthly class. BrantBeacon explains that they have already raised $1,581.50 for the local legion this year. The outlet reports that the next event will take place on June 24. The theme will pivot from Elvis Presley and toward Country music instead.
Another great way to keep fit is with martial arts. Earlier this month, a 13-year-old girl put her training to good use. The student was reportedly walking home from school when a man attacked her. Unbeknownst to the suspect, the teen was studying Jiu-Jitsu and had three years of experience under her belt.
The student fought off her attacker and escaped, but not before allegedly breaking his ankle. In an interview, the student’s sensei, Michael Blackburn, said, “I told her we were proud of her. She did exactly what she was supposed to do. You have to fight in class like you’re going to protect yourself on the street.”
