21 Truths That Only Curly-Haired Girls Will Understand

By Minq Team

Only fellow curly-haired girls can possibly understand how much having a bunch of naturally twisty hair can affect your life. Although curls can be great, they come with a specific set of issues that only those who wake up with them every morning know about.

Bobby Pin Magnet

At any given moment, there are probably at least 3 bobby pins somewhere in your hair that you don’t know about. It could be a week since you last wore bobby pins, and still find one somewhere in your hair.

Wet Hair Don’t Care

It’s no secret that curly hair takes a very long time to dry after a shower, meaning that you’re used to showing up places with your hair still wet. It’s not that you want to, it’s just that you didn’t have 3 hours to spare to wait for it to dry.

Humidity Is The Enemy

Nothing can ruin your hair faster and more completely than humidity. Even just stepping out the door on a humid day will instantly cause your hair to poof and frizz. Looks like a hat day…

Forecast For Straightening

Before putting in the insane amount of time and effort it takes to straighten your hair, you know to check the weather forecast for the next 3 days. If there is even the slightest chance of rain or humidity, there’s no point in straightening it.

Hair Ties Everywhere

Every girl with curly hair is prepared for the very high probability that she will need to put her hair in a bun or ponytail if it isn’t cooperating. Whether they’re floating around in your purse or worn around your wrist, curly-haired girls have these on hand at all times.

Running Fingers Through

A lot of romantic stories and movies show a guy running his fingers through a girl’s hair to be romantic. To you, this is the exact opposite of romance: think of the frizz!

Foreign Objects

“Did you know you have something in your hair?” No, of course I didn’t. How can I possibly keep track of what’s going on in this dense forest on my head? You’ll have to help me get it out of there or I’ll be searching for hours.

Conditioner Overload

Some people say that a proper amount of conditioner is pool in your hand about the size of a quarter. If you can read that and not burst out laughing then you are definitely not a girl with curly hair. Curly haired girls need to use like 10 times that amounts to get their hair to be manageable.

Not So Bangin’

Every girl has gone through a bang phase, and some have found that it went so well that they kept the look. Sadly, most curly haired girls look back on their bang phase and cringe.

Bed Head Is Real

Hearing straight-haired friends complain about bed head is laughable. They have a few hairs sticking up in the morning, but you wake up in an ocean of tangled tresses that is 3 times the size of what your hair normally looks like.

The Brush Off

Owning a brush just seems pointless. Either it gets stuck in your hair or you wind up breaking it trying to get it through.

Hairdresser Trust

You know that your hair is a complicated jungle, and therefore you trust only a proven explorer to maintain it. Every curly-haired girl has her own trusted hairdresser that she trusts solely. If that hairdresser moves away, you’ve probably contemplated making the move with her.

Curl Power

Although you are constantly relying on hair ties to tame your hair, the curls win sometimes. You’ve seen your fair share of hair ties snap apart due to the sheer force of your curls.

Straightened Compliments

When you do go through the effort of straightening your hair, only part of you wants to get compliments from people, and the other part of you hates it. Isn’t saying that my hair looks great straightened also kind of saying that it looks subpar curly?

Updon’ts

You know those pretty updo hairstyles you see some girls wearing to nice events? Welp, that’s nice for them, but unless you’re ready to clear your entire day to straighten and style your hair, these fancy hairstyles won’t be gracing your head.

Traitor Swift

You can still be Taylor Swift’s biggest fan (and you should be), but a part of you will always miss her curly-haired beginnings. It just feels so wrong that she was able to cut off her long, curly hair and look amazing with a short, straight look. Some girls have all the luck.

Clogged

When you’re living with someone, every curly-haired girl knows that moment of disheartening fear when your roommate says that the shower or sink is clogged. Obviously, it’s because of your hair.

Straight Hairstyle Overload

The internet is an amazing place to find new styles and fashions in which to wear your hair. Unfortunately, pretty much every hair tutorial you find will only work for straight hair. Girls with curly hair have so much fewer hairstyle options.

Getting Cozy At The Salon

You know that a trip to the hair salon will be an all-day affair; not just a walk-in, walk-out appointment like other girls. Thankfully, you know your stylist very well since she’s probably the only person you will let touch your hair, so you can catch up with her.

Parting Ways

Want to find the natural part in your hair? Good luck with that! It’s really anyone’s guess at this point.

Broken Promises Products

Every hair care product promises to tame your curly hair. Even though you’ve tried them all, water still works best. You’ll still keep trying though.
