19 Creative DIY Christmas Card Ideas That Are Sure To Stand Out

By Minq Team
Branislav Nenin

There is something a little more special about a Christmas card that is handmade instead of gotten from a box. Have your Christmas cards stand out this year by making them yourself. Here are some creative DIY Christmas card ideas to help get you started.

Finger Painted Tree

There is nothing sweeter than getting your small children involved in helping to create your Christmas cards. Draw a basic tree form on a piece of white card stock. Leave room between the branches for finger print light bulbs. Have your child dip their fingers into watercolors or easy to wash off paints and press them onto the tree outline.

Sparkle Cards

These cards are easy to create with the help with holiday cookie cutter shapes. Cut out shapes on a piece of cardstock. Cover the shapes with glitter glue and allow them to dry. Once they are dry, place the shape in the middle of the front of a card.

Wrapping Paper Tree

There is no doubt that this time of year you have some extra wrapping paper. Cut various length stripes from different wrapping papers and create a tree on the front of a card.

Rudolph Envelopes

And don’t forget about the envelope that the cards will go in! Give those some Christmas spirit as well by buying brown envelopes and gluing on antlers, eyes, and a red nose.

Chocolate Trees

You can really give your friends and family something sweet with these cute DIY chocolate trees. All you need is construction paper, Hershey’s kisses, and some folding skills.

Snowman Buttons

Do you want to build a snowman? Thanks to Olaf, snowmen are really hot right now, and you can create your own with three different size buttons.

Removable Ornament

Put your card to good use by creating a removable ornament. These can be made with the help of a computer.

Fold In Shapes

There is nothing more exciting than opening a card and having something pop out at you. That is exactly what will happen when you create fold in shape cards. They are created with a pattern and a crafting knife.

Hot Cocoa Reindeer

It’s not technically a card, but these are the perfect holiday party favors for all your loved ones. Not only will they love the cute reindeer design, but who doesn’t love a mug of hot cocoa during winter?

Grown-Up Reindeer

If your family and friends are old enough, then they might enjoy this alternative to the hot cocoa reindeer. Some brown pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and red balls can magically transform a six pack into a herd that can pull Santa’s sleigh.

Origami Shapes

Attach origami shapes to the front of cards for a creative holiday greeting. Things like snowflakes and gift packages are easy to make and attach easily with some glue.

Bottle Cap Magnets

You can make these little magnets easily by attaching a small magnet to the back of a bottle cap and gluing in a picture. Include them with your cards for your family to hang on their fridge with ease. You can use pictures of your family, or just some festive holiday pictures.

Rubber Stamp Cards

Rubber stamps, colored ink pads, and colored pencils and you are on the way to creating some beautiful cards. These cards are easy enough to create, consider allowing the kids to help out.

Stand Up Shape Cards

Colored, textured papers are sturdy enough to stand on their own. Consider creating trees or animals associated with winter.

Digital Cards

Consider using digital photos and creating your card completely with the use of the computer. These cards are simple and elegant.

Presents

Turn your cards into presents by adding some ribbon and other embellishment. They can be as simple or creative as you wish.

Rickrack Greetings

Rickrack is a decorative trim that can easily be made into a variety of shapes. Consider making wreaths or candy canes.

Paper Punches

Paper punches are a great aid in creating cards. Snowflakes and other designs can help dress up a card.

Kids Creations

Give the kids some paper and markers and let them create the holiday cards.
