Every Makeup Amateur Needs To Know These Eyeshadow Basics

By Minq Team

There's so much to know about makeup that sometimes it's just easier to not bother with any of it. If you're new to the makeup game, we've got you covered. With these easy eyeshadow tips you will get the look you've always wanted without feeling overwhelmed or like a drag queen.

Figure Out Eye Shape

By figuring out which eye shape you have, you can learn what shading techniques work best for your shape. Just like clothes, every style doesn't look the same on every shape.

Familiarize Yourself With Naming

Become familiar with the parts of the eyelid. You don't want to be putting shadow on the wrong part of your lid just because you don't know the lingo.

Learn Your Brushes

A perfect eyeshadow look comes from the perfect combination of brushes. Learn which one does what, so you don't find yourself using a blush brush for your eyeshadow.

Don’t Forget The Primer

Using a primer before applying your eyeshadow helps the color from creasing or falling off throughout your day. Primer also helps amplify the color of the shadow.

Find The Right Color

Like foundation, you want to make sure you choose an eyeshadow color according to your skin tone. Experiment with warm and cool tones on your forearm to find your perfect shade!

Make Your Eyes Look Bigger

By putting a lighter shade of eyeshadow on the inside crease of the eye near the tear duct, your eyes will brighten and look bigger.

Use Shades That Compliment Your Eye Color

Finding a color eyeshadow that compliments your eye color will really make your eyes pop.

Seriously Stand Out With White Liner

If you want the color of your shadow to really pop, apply white eyeliner before the shadow. You'll be amazed by the bright color!

Know Your Palette

In a normal eyeshadow palette there are four colors. Each color is used for a different part of the eye.

Make A Defined Shape

Don't be afraid to make a defined shape on your eye lid of where the color should be. You can then blend the color in to not make it look so harsh.

Or Use A Pencil

You can even use an eyeshadow pencil to draw out exactly what you want on your eye. You can then go back in and fill in the defined lines with color.

Find Your Crease

To easily find your crease and control where the color is going on your eye, tilt your head up and look down to the mirror. The crease is the indentation above your eyeball.

Use Setting Spray

With a few quick sprits of setting spray all your hard eyeshadow work will stay in place all day.

Practice Makes Perfect

Don't worry if you don't get it just right the first time, like with everything practice makes perfect!
