A beauty queen who competed in the Miss Universe competition in Ecuador last year died over the weekend at age 28.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, María Lorena Argüello was a semi-finalist in the 2024 Ecuador’s Miss Universe pageant. She passed away on Sunday, and Ecuador’s pageant committee reportedly confirmed her death.

A translated post by CNB Ecuador on Instagram reads, “The National Beauty Pageant expresses its deep sorrow for the departure of Lorena Argüello, Miss. We accompany with respect and solidarity to his family and loved ones at this time of sorrow. DM removed and CNB semi-finalist 2024 Your memory will always remain with us.”

Despite Argüello’s sudden passing, details surrounding the beauty queen’s death remain a mystery. We may have more information after the authorities investigate.

The Daily Mail explains that Argüello’s first pageant was last year, where she represented Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. Off the stage, she studied medicine and reportedly earned her medical surgeon degree from the University of Las Americas on June 30, 2024.

Friends And Fans Mourn The Beauty Queen’s Passing

Many have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness at Argüello’s sudden passing. Replying to the post by CNB Ecuador, @andreaquito.torres wrote, “There are no words, I love you Lore thank you for being such a sweet, kind and sincere person. It was an honor to have coincided in this life, I hope to see you again in the next. My roomie.”

Another user, @mariajosecordovag, recalled competing against Argüello before forging a friendship. “At first, this seemed like just a contest, but it ended up being a family. Even though we start in 2024 we are still together because we all create bonds that go beyond the crown. Today it hurts in our souls to see her go, but we take comfort in knowing she did what she loved: self-discovery and shining.”

Nadia Mejia Webb, who the Daily Mail explains competed in Ecuador last year wrote, “One of the kindest people I’ve ever met.. Praying for her family. God gained a true angel.” @reinasuniversales.ec simply posted, “No, my God. Rest in peace.”
