10 Tips to Grow Longer, Healthier Hair

By Minq Team

It's not only important to keep you hair looking good, but you also have to be sure you're keeping it healthy. Thankfully, most healthy hair habits will also give you beautiful hair. Try these tips out and you'll have perfect hair in no time.

Frequent Hair Cuts

Yes, getting your hair cut often seems totally counterproductive if you are trying to grow out your hair, but it’s not. Ask your stylist for a trim every two to three months to get rid of the split ends. If you avoid haircuts and neglect your ends, the split ends will just split more leading to dull and unhealthy hair.

Egg Yolk

If you are really trying to grow out your hair and want a speedy fix, make an egg yolk mask for your hair once a week. Mix two egg yolks with 1 tbsp. olive oil. Massage onto the length of your hair and rinse after twenty minutes. The protein from the egg with condition you hair, making it shinier and stronger.

Protein

Like the rest of your body, your hair gets its nutrients from the foods you eat and hair needs protein. A small diet change to more protein can make a big difference in the health of your hair. Try fish, chicken, or lentils for a lean option.

Brushing

Have you heard the old saying, “brush your hair every night 100 times?” Well you don’t really need to count but brushing your hair is one of the most important elements in hair maintenance. Brushing helps distribute the natural oils that sit on your scalp throughout the length of your hair. Try to brush it for about two minutes before you go to bed.

Scalp Massage

While applying shampoo massage your scalp for about a minute. Stimulating the scalp increases the blood flow, which helps internally. The deep tissue of the scalp contains the sebaceous glands. When these glands are activated they produce more of the natural oil your hair needs to stay silky and smooth.

Don’t Condition the Roots

Never ever condition your roots. While conditioner works as a moisturizer for the rest of your hair it does the opposite for your roots; it dries them out. Your roots provide the oil for your hair and conditioner wipes away the natural oil supply. You can shampoo your whole head, but condition an inch or more away from your roots.

Sleep On Silk

You don’t need a full set of silk sheets, but a silk pillowcase is a miracle for your hair. When you’re sleeping and rolling around your hair breaks easier. A silk pillowcase provides a smooth surface for your hair to move without rough resistance.

Drink Water

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is not only beneficial to your metabolism, mood, and health, but also for your hair strength. Water hydrates your hair from the inside, making it stronger and longer. Hydrated hair is happy hair.

Don’t Shampoo Everyday

Your hair really doesn’t get that dirty so washing it every day is actually harmful instead of helpful. When you shampoo all the time your scalp and hair is stripped of its natural oils, leaving your hair dry. If you play a sport or workout and need to wash everyday, dilute your shampoo with water.

Use Heat Protectant

Please, please, please use heat protectant. You’re hair with thank you. When you blow dry, straighten, and curl you are frying your hair leaving it dull and lifeless. Heat protectant creates a shield around each strand, which locks in hair’s natural moisture.
